Guiding the Future of Marfa’s Parks Through Community Collaboration

Public spaces thrive when they reflect the needs and aspirations of the people who use them. Together with City of Marfa Parks, on May 28, Circle V Landscape Architecture and Planning hosted a public engagement workshop in Marfa, Texas, inviting residents to weigh in on the future of Sunset Park and Coffield Park. With nearly 90 attendees, an impressive turnout for a town of 1,600, the workshop generated meaningful discussions, reinforcing the community’s deep investment in shaping its public spaces.

Key priorities emerged from the event, with residents emphasizing the importance of native plantings, eco-conscious material choices, and low water use. These insights align with ongoing efforts to enhance Marfa’s recreational spaces, including the Coffield Park splash pad installation and city park master plan, as reported by the Big Bend Sentinel.

"What excites me most is the opportunity to shape a collective vision for all of Marfa’s parks," said Jaime Sims, founder of Circle V.
"We are helping to set the framework for long-term improvements that can evolve over time and have a profound impact on the community."

Hannah D’Amico, Managing Principal of Circle V, adds:

"Getting to know the unique community of Marfa on a deeper level was incredibly inspiring. What excites me is being part of a process that honors the character of the town while creating spaces that serve people of all ages and backgrounds. It is meaningful to contribute to something that will grow and adapt with the community."

Community engagement plays a critical role in creating public spaces that are truly responsive to local needs. By listening to residents and incorporating their perspectives, Circle V Landscape Architecture and Planning is ensuring that Marfa’s parks will be welcoming, functional, and deeply connected to the town’s character.

For those who want to stay involved, the parks department has collected email addresses and will keep residents informed of the next steps. As the design process advances, Circle V remains committed to fostering collaboration and bringing these ideas to life.
